About this site

Hi folks, selamat datang and sawatdii khrab. I’m from Kuala Lumpur, but have lived in the UK for most of my adult life.  As of April 2012, however, I’ll be enrolled in a half-year course at one of Bangkok’s universities, with a view to then permanently relocate back to southeast Asia.

This website is to help me reflect on Malaysian-Thai ties (wahey!), compare and contrast the two cultures, document my bumbling attempts in learning pasaa Thai, and chart my experiences in Thailand (…. if and only if I could get to grips with wordpress). I hope it’ll be of interest to Malaysians, Thais, mat sallehs/farangs and anyone else for that matter who happen to have stumbled on this website.

Acknowledgment: The title banner was blown-up from an internet photo still of the movie Queen of Langkasuka, ปืนใหญ่จอมสลัด, directed by Nonzee Nimibutr. The actor is Jesdaporn Pholdee, and he plays a prince from the Malay sultanate of Pahang. What an apt photo for this website I thought – it quite nicely brings both Thai and Malay elements together 🙂 If anyone knows where to get hold of a DVD of the movie with English or Malay subtitles, please do tell.
